Happiness is you...

Another layout..Wow! I've got back into my groove and got out of my uncreative funk I was in. I just needed one layout to get me inspired again. This picture in the layout of Raydn was taken in the summer using the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone. This app has so many different picture combinations to choose from but the great thing is you can save the combinations you like using best. In this picture I used the Kodot XGrizzled Film and the Lucifer VI lens with no flash... by far my favourite :) 
In this layout I used the Simple Store paper line called Baby Steps, the colours matched the distorted exaggerated colours of the hipstamatic photo perfectly. I used the wooden birdcage and bird from Kaiser Kraft. I coloured the bird brown with walnut stain distress stain and embossed it with iridescent embossing powder...I meant to grab clear though....opps. First it was too shimmery, so I reapplied the stain to create a water drop affect and added thick embossing powder. It ended up melted like glass and had a slight tint of sparkle in it. The more you reapply embossing powder  and "melt it", the more glassy, smooth looking it will be become. I got the idea from a layout we did in Roxannes class to lay the bird behind the cage and add feathers for the tail. You can buy the flowers from the dollar store in the craft isle. Very cute idea...Thanks Roxanne :) 

I of course, layered lots of paper with some heavy walnut stain inking. The thing that was hard for me was using pre-made flowers. I always prefer to make my own but the greens and creams in these Petaloo flowers matched perfectly. The little bird nest was from Prima flowers...super cute. Lastly, what ties the whole layout together was the stamping I stamped on each side of the picture in forest moss ink. I think it matches the swirls pretty close that was originally on the paper.

Winter.Snow.

Well, it certainly been a long time since I last blogged. Sometimes it feels life's activities get in the way .... and also my very busy 2 year old. This was a class I took from Urban by Roxanne of course. This year Roxannes theme for her classes is using sketches. She of course also still incorporates new techniques into each layout. Roxanne gets her sketches from a well-known websites, Page Maps by Becky Fleck. The sketches are organized by month and by sketch type. They are very easy to navigate and you can also view a sample page beside each sketch. This one is the 12x12 double page sketch from March 2011. The paper line she used was "The Yellow Bicycle"...beautiful paper. Details that made this layout unique were the little handmade pine cones (which I had a little bit of trouble making) and the many different ways we inked and embossed the snowflakes. Very fun class to take.

Christmas Tags....

Last week I took a class from Nichole at Urban Scrapbook. Her Christmas tags were amazing and I could not resist. I have never done Christmas tags before and now I think I am hooked!! It could be a little project you could do if you have that itch to scrapbook but do not have lots of time. On these tags we used fine and thick embossing powder, distress inks and Stamps of course. Very fun!!

Princess...

Almost December...you wouldn't know it by the temperatures outside. Yesterday +7..unreal. So unusual for Edmonton but I am definitely not complaining. The kids get to enjoy the snow and not freeze! I'm sure it won't last though. Yesterday Raydn got to make his first snowman (there was to much snow last year right off the start)..he was a little upset when the head fell off the first time though.  A little funny for me but probably traumatic for him.

This layout is of my "little princess", my niece Tiana. I used the new prima paper line. This picture was taken for my brothers wedding. I styled her hair, put some makeup on her face and bought her some fancy jewelery. That night she said she "felt like a princess".

On the chipboard, I painted it with mushroom dimensional pearls first, then embossed it with iridescent embossing powder, inked the whole thing with lots of fired brick distress ink and lastly inked the edges with walnut stain distress ink. I loved how it turned out glimmery and all blended. For my flowers, I first inked the edges but the pink didn't match; so I ended up chalking the flowers which turned out to be a more sutle, soft look. For my photo matts I used tissue paper, initially it was to pink so I glimmer misted it with marshmallow and tattered rose. Under the flowers, I actually used a mask. I embossed it again with the clear embossing powder, chalked the edges with pink and lastly blended it lightly with a cream chalk.

A Night to Remember...

Have you checked out the new BoBunny line "Enchanted" and the accessories?? OMG! So beautiful. The minute I saw it, I knew what pictures I was using....Vegas baby! These pictures remind me of the fabulous time I had in Las Vegas with my sister-in-law and great friend. My favourite memories were dressing up and going out for amazing suppers (I don't get to dress up to much these days with a 2 year old..) and NOTHING says Vegas though.....than celebrating your great time on a roof top bar that overlooks the strip. A moment that I will never forget for the rest of my life :) The elegant black and white BoBunny paper line was perfect to capture our amazing night out.
In my layout I used the big flower I just learned in my last class and also created a shasta daisy using the Tim Holtz "tattored florals".....my absolute favourite die cut!! The paper layering (3 main pages) I saw on a layout at Urban. I used to layer my pages ALL the time when I first started scrapbooking a while back (when layering was very popular) and I thought I would try it again. I also added some dangling pearls from Tim Holtz as well....a perfect touch. I am actually very pleased with how this layout turned out. While photographing this layout though, I realized it is very hard to photograph black :(
